Ana I. Robles, Ph.D.
Staff Scientist
Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis, CCR

I joined the Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis, CCR as a postdoctoral fellow in 1996, and became a Staff Scientist in 2004. I have been actively involved in the CCR Staff Scientist/Staff Clinician Organization since its creation, serving a variety of functions, including formulation of the organization By-laws, membership on the Retreat Committee, and design of the organization poster at the Annual PI retreat.

As a member of the NIH-Translational Research Interest Group (TRIG) I learned of the need to bring together physician scientists and basic scientists to improve clinical practice as well as preclinical strategies. The SS/SC is a diverse group that collectively encompasses the whole spectrum of expertise and practical knowledge necessary for effective bench-to-bedside interaction. I think the SS/SC group is uniquely positioned to help catalyze translational research at the CCR and the NIH. Beyond great science, the SS/SC need to have more specific role on the intramural program and I would like for the SS/SC to consider if there are specific roles for us to play in this initiative.
