User Project Approval

HiTIF Policy and Project Acceptance:

Typical high-throughput imaging research projects require a significant investment of funding resources, experimental time, and specialized expertise to address both the biological requirements as well as the technical aspects of the assay/screen. Because of this situation, the majority of HiTIF projects are long-term collaborations between the HiTIF Head and an independent CCR principal investigator and a postdoctoral fellow who is associated with the principal investigator.

The Facility Head and the HiTIF Oversight Committee have jointly drafted a policy that meets the needs of the facility and users. The Oversight Committee consists of experts in the fields of microscopy and screening from across the NCI/NIH community and is chaired by Dr. Carole Parent, Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology. To initiate a project with the HiTIF, the investigator first submits a short proposal explaining the goals of the project, potential scientific significance, and preliminary data as proof-of-concept. This proposal is reviewed by the Facility Head and the Co-Supervisors of the Facility (Dr. Tom Misteli, LRBGE Senior Investigator; and Gordon Hager, LRBGE Lab Chief). The Facility Head and Co-Supervisors will then meet with the applying principal investigator to address possible concerns with the proposed project. Following this discussion, a brief recommendation document will be included with the submission of the original proposal to the HiTIF Oversight Committee. The HiTIF Oversight Committee will then make the final decision to accept or reject the project.

Costs:

The initiating laboratory is responsible for the cost of all consumable supplies that are required for assay development and execution of the screens.
