Vaccine Working Group

Mission

The Vaccine Working Group enhances the research efforts within the NCI intramural program toward developing novel vaccines for cancer immunotherapy and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). as well as viruses that cause cancer. The group brings together members from throughout the Institute with diverse scientific backgrounds to allow cross-fertilization of ideas leading to vaccine development for a variety of cancers, viruses causing cancer, and for HIV. The Vaccine Working Group encourages collaborations, identifies organizational and reagent needs for the vaccine community, and helps develop the optimal infrastructure for vaccine development. The end goal is to arrive at novel clinical trial approaches for unique vaccine studies.

Goals

The goals of the Vaccine Working Group are to:

• Bring together intramural members with diverse scientific backgrounds to allow for the cross-fertilization of ideas.
• Encourage new collaborations and strengthen old ones.
• Identify organizational needs in the vaccine community.
• Foster an infrastructure conducive to vaccine development.
• Develop novel approaches to clinical trials for vaccine-unique studies.

How To Join

NCI intramural  investigators may join any of the Faculties/Working Groups in which they wish to participate. Although membership is intended primarily for NCI intramural  investigators, some groups also permit other staff members to participate. Membership is also open to local NCI extramural science administrators, as well as to other vaccine scientists at NIH or the FDA.
