Microscopes

The EIB Microscopy and Digital Imaging (MicroDIm) Facility provides a number of high-end light microscopes for brightfield, fluorescence and confocal imaging.

1) Zeiss LSM 510 META Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope

Stand: inverted Axiovert 200M
Objectives: high n.a. oil immersion Plan-Apochromat lenses
Brightfield Contrasting: phase contrast (10x), differential interference contrast (DIC)
Fluorescence: AttoArc HBO 100
Lasers: 351/364nm Ar/UV, 458/477/488/514nm Ar/Vis, 543nm HeNe, 633nm HeNe
Camera: META PMT detector array and 2 single-channel PMTs
Stage: motorized focus
Applications: fluorescence or reflection confocal microscopy, optical sectioning of specimen, elimination of out-of-focus light, 3D reconstruction, and colocalization in 3D.

2) Zeiss Axioplan 2 Upright Microscope

Applications: high-resolution brightfield and fluorescence microscopy, deconvolution microscopy for deblurring and 3D reconstruction, observation of cell cultures in petri dishes, live-cell imaging, and time-lapse video microscopy (when heated stage is available).

Brightfield contrasting: Hoffman-Modulation-Contrast (HMC)
Fluorescence: HBO 100
Camera: SPOT-2
Stage: manual focus
Applications: unstained cell culture samples in plastic petri dishes with HMC and LWD optics; fluorescence-labeled specimens on glass bottom culture dishes; fluorescence-labeled specimens slide-mounted; digital photography of brightfield and fluorescence microscopy images.

5) Zeiss Standard Upright Microscope

Stand: upright
Objectives: dry and high n.a. oil immersion
Brightfield contrasting: Phase contrast
Fluorescence: HBO 50
Camera: 35mm camera
Stage: manual focus
Applications: this is a simple survey microscope (e.g., use to quickly check GFP transfection efficiency or outcome of staining procedures).

6) Leica Wild MZ 9.5 Stereomicroscope
