Password

  • Before you can use your account for the first time, you must change the password provided to you.
    After changing the password for the first time, wait for an hour before attempting to log into iRIS.

  • Use the NIH iForgotMyPassword to change your Password and maintain your Security Questions. 

    • Select NIHEXT Domain, enter your Account's Use Name and click on the Agree button.

  • Your Account's Password expires in 120 days.
  • Note that the Password can only be changed once in a 24 hour period.

Logging in from a Windows computer

First Time use

  1. If the Remote Desktop Connection Client is not installed on your computer, download and install from the Microsoft Website.
  2. Download the Login Configuration File.

Logging in

  1. Double-click on the downloaded Login Configuration File.
  2. If files need to be uploaded to or downloaded from iRIS, click on the Details icon and select which of your local computer resources you want the remote computer to access.
    Then click on the Connect button.


  3. Enter your User Name, Password and click on the OK button.


  4. Read the warning and then click on the OK button to continue.



  5. On the iRIS Log In page, enter your User Name, Password and click on the Log In button.

     

  6. Note that on the first time you log into iRIS, you won't have access to anything since you account needs to be configured. Log out and contact the person that notified you of your NIH External account so it can be configured. Once that is done, you will be able to perform tasks associated with your role in iRIS.
     


  7. Once done using iRIS, log out of iRIS and close the Internet Explorer window.

Logging in from a Mac computer

First Time use

  1. Download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop App from the Apple App Store.
  2. Download the Login Configuration File.
  3. Import the Configuration File:
    1. Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop app.


    2. Select the menu option Connections > Import Desktops...


    3. Select the downloaded configuration file and click the Open button


    4. If files need to be uploaded to or downloaded from iRIS, tap with two fingers on the imported configuration and select the Edit... option.


    5. Select which Folder you would like to share with the Remote Desktop environment:
      Click on Folders button;
      Check Redirect Folders;
      Click on the  +  icon;
      Select the desired folder;
      Click on the Open button;
      Click Save.


    6. To share your local printer and clipboard with the Remote Desktop environment:
      Tap with two fingers on the imported configuration and select the Edit... option and then;
      Click on Devices and Audio button;
      Check Printers, check Clipboard;
      Click Save.

Logging In

  1. Open the Microsoft Remote Desktop
    Double-click on the imported configuration.




  2. Enter your user name preceded by NIHEXT\ and your password. Click Done to log into the Remote Desktop.



  3. Read the warning and then click on the OK button to continue.


     
  4. On the iRIS Log In page, enter your User Name, Password and click on the Log In button.



  5. Note that on the first time you log into iRIS, you won't have access to anything since you account needs to be configured.   6. Once done using iRIS, log out of iRIS and close the Internet Explorer window.
