The BioResource Section of BCGC provides human cohort development, sample processing and lymphoblastoid cell line (LCL) transformation to create immortal B-cell lines from human and animal material received. The Cell Biology lab transforms up to 160 LCLs per week at maximum production. In addition, the Genotyping and Cell Biology labs provides rapid high throughput genotyping of defined AIDS Restriction Genes (ARGs).
Early on it was recognized that for successful genetic studies, particularly international studies, care in handling patient information and samples must be taken from start to finish. Leveraging our staff’s expertise in sample preservation and data management, we developed a collection of protocols that enable us to ensure the quality and identity of our cohort collections from around the world. We train our collaborators in field collection techniques and provide barcode labeling technology and compatible technology for recording patient information, identifying samples and linking them to clinical data, tracking sample locations, and collection-study progress on site and at NCI.
